Many syncretistic religions formed gnosticism. Gnosticism was rivaling against Christianity and gnosticism held itself better religion as Christianity was. Word gnosticism comes from Greek word gnosis, which means knowledge. Gnosticism was various effects, for instance, some Gnostics taught that divinity can be achieved through unity of the man and woman. This thought led some Gnostics to reach for divinity through sexual intercourse between the man and woman. There existed also some Gnostics, who abstained from sexual intercourse. When we know the fact that Gnostics held Christians as their enemies and that Gnostics held themselves better as Christians and that Gnostics wanted to show in every way that Gnosticism was better as Christianity, so Gnostics made so called gnostic gospels were they twisted, slandered and misrepresented the real gospels. Gnostics went so far in this misrepresent that they wrote "new gospels" by faking the real gospels. In these faked gospels Gnostics wrote that Jesus Christ was an ordinary man who has a sexual relationship with Mary Magdalene.

I would like to add that the theology of ND does indeed have an incredible influence on the minds of young adults. My daughter entered Notre Dame as a very involved, young, pro-life Catholic. She graduated, still pro-life, thank God, but a proclaimed atheist. She got so many conflicting stories of what Catholicism is all about, that she determined it all to be false.
I really like Susan's idea of an off campus alternative commencement. That is a better alternative than boycotting one's own commencement.

Fighting Irish Thomas: I'm proud of you. Yours was a well written column. You are obviously a well formed & practicing follower-disciple of Jesus Christ. A Catholic in other words.
OBrien has long been a royal shame to the priesthood, and an embarrasment. Is he just that ignorant, or is he really evil and devious? I mean, to waiver on the question of Christ being married is just beyond belief. 99.9% of second graders can answer that question right. It's guys like OBrien who are the poster child for the #1 capital sin, PRIDE.
It just breaks my heart to think of him pontificating in front of a classroom, influencing 18 year olds. I am a great sinner, and I'm counting on purgatory. But OBrien, he better see a good spiritual director, a REAL CATHOLIC THEOLOGIAN, real soon. And he should be begging 'Our Lady' to intercede for him and spare the wrath of GOD.

Excellent idea. A Keyes-McBrien debate would feature more "clash" than a student-Cuomo debate, and therefore a more convincing rebuttal of prochoice Catholicism.

If a Keyes win still did not deter Obama from coming, I would propose an off-campus "Alternative" Commencement with Keyes giving the Commencement speech. There could be no race canards if prolife students have Keyes as speaker, and he does have a silver tongue. Though he does have his erratic moments, Keyes is nevertheless much preferable to Obama as should now be plainly evident to all.
