Thanks for the thoughtful post. Like you I abhor abortion AND the murder of abortionists. But I see both as predictable and unavoidable symptoms of a much more fundamental global conflict, between wanton consumerism and the moral life of sufficiency. Unwanted pregnancies and abortions won't end as long as every TV channel, billboard and magazine glorifies sex as a consumer good and justifies consumption as "the American Dream." But America's leaders don't like talking about root causes. Roeder would have done more for this world's consumed innocents if he had shot the president of a marketing firm and blamed him for the deaths of innocence AND innocents.

The most serious reason this murder is wrong is that if Dr. Tiller had not yet repented of his sins and turned to God's mercy, he lost that opportunity for all time.

Instead of shooting him. I wish I had taken the bullet for him that he might have had one more day to repent. Murder is a grievous act against God's mercy.

Pray now to the God of Mercy that in that nanosecond before death he begged for mercy and stole heaven like the good thief. Praise God if that be true.

"Whoever murdered George Tiller has done a gravely wicked thing. Violence against abortionists is not the way the pro-life movement defends "the lives of abortion's tiny victims." For that, we have "the chaste weapons of the spirit."
